Jean Sheldon has definitely put forth a jelly side up experience for the reader. When I first saw this little volume, which combines poetry and art, I said, "This is the book I have been waiting for my entire life." Then I called almost everyone I knew and read them excerpts.

I fumble around in my mind for words

like I fumble around in my pocket

for change…

dig deep

and come up empty

We seek out people with

a sameness about them.

I drank martinis with someone once,

wishing all the time I could

stand the taste of gin.

She was adrift in your image

Strong enough to topple your

towering shell—fool enough

not to.

"Marry me" you said,

"I love you."

As if that were enough.
