Chapter Three

Let a Sleeping Cat Lie

Sleep is one of the many things we do extremely well. Some of my friends sleep up to 18 hours a day but we generally average between 14 and 16. Bats sleep more than we do and so do opossums. They both check in at a grueling 20 hours a day. (If a cat catnaps and a bat batnaps, what do opossums do?)

People are not like us when they are sleeping. We can go from a deep sleep to being totally alert in a split second, while people tend to be groggy for quite awhile after they wake up. My mom has to drink her coffee in the morning before she can say anything more than “rrrrmmmmmpppphhhhhd sdfdsaj iead.”

The Cat Box

Cats are rather delicate creatures and they are subject to a good many different ailments, but I have never heard of one who suffered from insomnia.
